What Is GHK-Cu?
GHK-Cu is a tripeptide – three amino acids (glycine, histidine, and lysine) bonded to a copper ion. Researchers first identified it in human plasma in the early 1970s. Over five decades of research since then, scientists have expanded our understanding of what it does: skin anti-aging, wound healing, hair restoration, and reduction of chronic inflammation (Cosmetics).
Your body naturally produces GHK-Cu throughout your life. It’s particularly abundant in your blood, saliva, and other bodily fluids. Its job is regeneration and repair – encouraging your skin to build new collagen, remodel damaged tissue, and heal wounds.
The problem is the decline. Plasma GHK-Cu concentrations drop from roughly 200 ng/mL at age 20 to approximately 80 ng/mL by age 60, according to research in the Aging Pathobiology and Therapeutics journal. This decline tracks almost perfectly with visible signs of aging: skin thinning, loss of firmness, slowed wound healing, and thinning hair.
GHK-Cu is not currently FDA-approved as a standalone therapeutic drug for human use. However, it is among the 14 peptides that the HHS announced in early 2026 are expected to move from the FDA’s restricted Category 2 list back to Category 1 – meaning licensed compounding pharmacies would once again be able to legally prepare GHK-Cu under a physician’s prescription. This reclassification has not yet been finalized.
In anticipation of this regulatory shift, we are preparing to offer GHK-Cu as part of our physician-supervised peptide program. This service is currently coming soon. We will only make it available once fully compliant with updated FDA compounding guidelines and through licensed 503A or 503B pharmacies.
We will not offer GHK-Cu or any other peptide through unregulated channels, regardless of current market availability.
GHK-Cu for Hair Restoration
Hair follicles are highly active, metabolically demanding structures. GHK-Cu supports follicle health through multiple pathways: reducing follicle inflammation, promoting angiogenesis to improve blood supply, and stimulating the growth phase of the hair cycle. Some studies have reported that GHK-Cu performs comparably to Minoxidil for stimulating hair growth through a more targeted molecular mechanism (Bioactive Materials).
When available, GHK-Cu at Medical Cosmetic Enhancements will be discussed alongside our existing hair restoration and microneedling plus programs – both of which create an ideal tissue environment for peptide-based growth support.

GHK-Cu has an excellent safety profile developed over decades of research and widespread cosmetic use. It is a naturally occurring human peptide, and at therapeutic concentrations it is well-tolerated with no significant adverse effects reported in the published literature.
Standard topical collagen products cannot deliver intact collagen to the dermis – the molecules are too large to penetrate skin. GHK-Cu is small enough to penetrate the stratum corneum and directly stimulates fibroblasts to produce new collagen from within.
