Medical tattooing isn't cosmetic tattooing
Medical tattooing covers scars, burns, stretch marks, birthmarks, vitiligo, and other permanent pigment changes by matching skin-toned pigments to your natural tone. It’s not art — it’s camouflage that makes damaged skin look whole again.
We also do 3D nipple and areola restoration for breast reconstruction patients, and 3D belly button tattooing. Nurse Ansley specializes in this work.
The procedure causes minor discomfort — most people take Tylenol beforehand and find it manageable. If you’ve had prior surgery that altered sensation, you might barely feel it.
Results last a long time. Pigment can fade over time, so touch-ups are available. Cost depends on the area size, how much pigment you need, and how long it takes.

Questions about medical tattooing
It's tattooing using skin-toned pigments to blend areas of altered or missing pigment with your natural skin tone. Unlike cosmetic tattoos that are meant to be seen as tattoos, medical tattooing aims to be invisible. The goal is to make the area look like your normal skin again.
Scars (surgical or from injury), stretch marks, burns, birthmarks, pigment loss from vitiligo or autoimmune conditions, and reconstructive needs like 3D nipple/areola restoration or belly button tattooing.
Every person's skin is different. We need to see your scar or stretch mark in person, assess its depth and pigment, and discuss your expectations. During consultation, we'll review your medical history, discuss healing, answer questions, and create a treatment plan. The consultation fee is $100 and gets applied to your treatment cost.
There's some minor discomfort. Most people describe it as uncomfortable but manageable. We recommend taking Tylenol before your appointment. If you need additional pain management, we offer in-office pain and anxiety medications. After surgical procedures, some patients have altered sensation and feel barely anything.
Depends on the size and location. Small scars might take 30 minutes to an hour. Larger areas like full stomach stretch marks or bilateral nipple tattooing take 2-5 hours. We'll give you a specific estimate during consultation.
Most people need 2 treatments spaced 3 weeks apart for full coverage. The first treatment creates the base layer. The second treatment adds depth and refines the blend. Some small areas might only need one session. We'll discuss this during consultation.
Results are long-lasting. Like any tattoo, pigment may fade over time, especially if you get a lot of sun exposure. If fading occurs, you can return for a touch-up treatment. How long it takes for noticeable fading varies by person and sun exposure.
