Questions about Botox
Botox is a neuromodulator. It's a protein that relaxes muscles. When injected into facial muscles, it prevents those muscles from contracting. Without the contraction, the wrinkles that form from movement soften and fade.
Botox blocks signals between nerves and muscles. The muscle can't contract. This smooths out wrinkles caused by repetitive muscle movement (like frowning or squinting).
Botox relaxes muscles that cause wrinkles. Fillers add volume to replace lost fat and smooth lines and folds. Botox works on the upper face. Fillers typically work on the lower face. Most people use both -- Botox for dynamic wrinkles, fillers for volume loss.

No. Discomfort is minimal. The needle is tiny. Once the injection is done, there's usually no discomfort.
Side effects are rare. The most common are temporary bruising and mild headache. A small percentage of people develop mild ptosis (eyelid drooping), but it's temporary and can be treated with prescription eye drops. Serious complications are extremely rare.
Yes. Don't get Botox if you're pregnant, breastfeeding, have a history of neuromuscular disease (like myasthenia gravis), or have an active skin infection in the treatment area. Talk to Dr. Varano during consultation if you have any medical conditions.
