In a typical session, we remove 1,500–3,000 cc of fat. For comparison, CoolSculpting removes about 320 cc total - you'd need 40–50 CoolSculpting sessions to match one liposuction procedure.

FAQ

How does laser liposuction work?

We use tumescent anesthesia - a lidocaine mixture that keeps you numb and awake. Small incisions allow us to insert the laser. The laser heats the fat, making it easier to remove. We suction the fat out through a small cannula. The heat also tightens overlying skin as it heals. No general anesthesia.

Is it painful?

The initial local anesthesia which usually takes 10-20 minutes is the only sensation for the treatment, most individuals rate the discomfort level as a minimal 3 out of 10 sensation. You're numb the whole time. You'll feel pressure and hear the machine, but there's no pain. Most people use over-the-counter pain medication like Tylenol for recovery if needed. We also offer relaxation medication prior to the treatment.

What about brands like Airsculpt and Sonobello?

We realize the many brands and types of body contouring can confuse patients which is best.
Some differences are listed below
Tumescent anesthesia- performed while awake, much quicker recovery and safer than general anesthesia
General anesthesia- done in an operating room, higher risk for complications, longer recovery and more costly. Generally used for what is referred to as traditional liposuction
SAL (Suction assisted liposuction)- fat is removed with vacuum suction cannula only
PAL-(Power assisted liposuction)- fat is removed by suction and the addition a machine that helps the motion of the suction cannula (helpful if you have had previous liposuction or previous surgery to the area)
LAL-(Laser assisted liposuction)-brands such as Smartlipo and Slimlipo use laser energy to help minimally tighten skin
UAL-(Ultrasound assisted liposuction)-brands like Vaser use ultrasound energy to heat up fat and remove it
Renuvion or J Plasma- energy used in addition to any of the types above for subdermal coagulation (under skin heating) to tighten skin better than all previous modalities.

In addition, some companies will try and "brand" their technique as being better, knowing the prospective patient is not aware of the common universal techniques . Companies like Sonobello and Airsculpt perform the same basic liposuction procedure of removing subcutaneous fat as all other medical practices, with the perception they are unique. In reality, it comes down to basic removal of subcutaneous fat, physician experience and if additional heating is utilized to help tighten skin if necessary. Airsculpt enters the skin though 2 mm audits (puncture sites) and then performs the same liposuction with tumescent anesthesia. The puncture sites is the only difference, which our practice can easily perform the same entry if requested. Overall it does not change the basic fat removal procedure.

Companies like Sonobello and Airscupt have a rotating doors of multiple franchise doctors, and generally none that have been performed over 4000 cases like Dr Varano.
Many non invasive procedures will use energy, laser, freezing techniques etc to help reduce fat (names such as , sculpsure, emsculpt ,coolsculpting,"laser lipo" or “ lipo-laser”-this really confuses patients, cavitation lipo, zerona etc.) Many of these treatments will only get out a small fraction of the fat that a surgical liposuction procedure can perform in addition do not have the skin tightening effects.
